The state of Georgia has introduced a Bill to keep pediphiles off Facebook, MYSpace, and other sites (http://www.2.wjgf.com/jbf/news/state_regional/georgia/article/new-bill-could_keep_-sex_o...).  One pre-teen female has both a Facebook page and a Myspace page and stated that there has been a lot of request to be her friend from people in there 30's and 40's (wjbf news).  Georgia State representatives beleives the bill will allow the "Georgia Bureau of Investigation to release social-networking sites the email and user names of pediphiles of registered sex-offenders and to be able to catch the pediphiles through software installed on these network sites (wjbf news).  Please see Podcast to the left on this article

  1. Wow if only we had more policing online! People who commit crimes like that do target young people. I was added by creepy older men and one sent me a message telling me he's coming to my city to visit someone, would I "like to hang out?" I was thinking ew ew ew ew and never replied.

Cyber bullying also happens often and I was victim to that about three times. Two of the bullies were females from my high school who love to obsess over making other people's lives miserable and one was a guy who probably had nothing better to do with his life. Now Facebook allows you to report any abuse, and the Facebook page that was created about me had been reported as Abuse.

I see it as a good thing that software installed on networking sites can catch people who have or are likely to commit crimes.

  2. Horror stories after horror stories are being reported about the way people use the networking sites to abuse others. Some of these instances may seem innocent but can turn into true criminal activity that is harmful in a very short period of time. Not always in a short time though, as cyberspace bullies are patient and really build strong relationships - however sick they may be before ever attempting to meet the person they are trying to influence in their direction. These frauds must be found out and are being revealed and prosecuted for their crimes. This is a very interesting subject and I enjoyed your post.
